FREQUENTLY asked questions
Q- What do turn models on a wood bat mean?
Think about the turn model as the blueprint of the bat. Wood bats come in a variety of shapes. The turn models will affect the barrel diameter, handle diameter, taper length, and how the weight is distributed.
Q- What does the taper length of a bat mean?
The taper is the transition of a wood bat from the handle to the barrel. Bats with long tapers have slow transition where the weight is distributed out. Quick tapers mean the barrel is separated more from the handle adding more mass to the barrel.
Q- Am I a contact hitter or a power hitter?
Contact hitters are usually smaller and quicker players who swing to get base hits. They generate their power through a quicker swing speed. Contact hitters are the first and second hitters in the lineup. Power hitters are stronger players who hit for extra base hits or RBI'S. They bat the third through sixth spots.
Q- What is a hybrid bat?
A hybrid bat is when specific part of the bat, usually the barrel, is made out of two different types of metals. This is done to distribute out the weight to give the bat a higher MOI and faster swing speed.
Q- Should I swing an aluminum bat or a composite bat?
This comes down to a matter of preference. Composite bats generally feel lighter when swung and tend to hit further, all though they require a break in time of 225 swings and can't be used in temperatures below 60 degrees F. Aluminum bats are more end-loaded, have a harder contact surface, and are more durable than composite bats.
Q- What's the difference between a one piece and two piece bat?
One piece bats are bats that are made entirely of aluminum or composite. Two piece bats are when the bat is composed of both aluminum and composite. They are usually joined at the handle. Companies do this to separate the barrel from the handle thus eliminating vibrations.
Q- What does the -3 on the bat mean?
The -3 is the difference between the length of the bat and the weight. For example, if you have a 33 inch bat, you subtract 3 which means the weight of the bat is 30 ounces.
