What Are bbcor Bats?
BBCOR is the new standard for high school and collegiate play. Without a BBCOR stamp, on a bat the bat is illegal and cannot be used. It has replaced the BESR (Ball Exit Speed Ratio) standard. The BESR measured the speed of the ball coming off of the bat compared to the speed of the ball when it was pitched. Since the BESR was put into effect, the average run total had increased 14%, and home-runs had increased 38%. Officials were afraid for the pitcher's safety because the balls were being hit so hard. BBCOR, which stands for Ball Batted Coefficient of Restitution, is the measure of how much flex the barrel has when it makes contact with the ball. This standard makes the bat perform more like a wood bat.

Requirements of a bbcor bat
All BBCOR bats must have a -3 length to weight ratio. This means the length of the bat in inches has to be 3 more than the weight of the bat in ounces. For example, a 33 inch bat would have to weigh 30 ounces. The barrel can't be more than 2 and 5/8 inches in diameter. All bats have to have the BBCOR .50 stamp in order for it to be legal.
